Do I Have To Be On My Computer At A Certain Time? No. This is a self-paced study within a group context. There are no scheduled calls to make. All lectures will be posted on a password protected area on the site and you can watch them when it suits your schedule. We will have a Q&A forum where we will respond to questions and where your classmates will also be able to share their experiences and insight. You can work through the material as quickly or as slowly as is right for you. How Do I Know Which Tier To Pick When I Am Registering? We believe that this program is a great value at every level of tuition. We also recognize that everyone has different financial circumstances. Additionally, we have students enrolled in the program from across the world where economic circumstances vary greatly. In an effort to make these teachings available to as many people as possible and to support you in participating when funds are tight, we have created a tiered pricing scale. This is an honor-based sliding scale approach where you pick your tuition based on what you can afford. Please pay what you can. PLEASE NOTE: Each tier has access to the same information and services.
How Advanced Is Advanced? Being advanced in asana is also not a requirement for this program. Participants should have a good, strong intelligent relationship to practice and no how to modify and challenge themselves.
In terms of teaching, in our promotional materials we make a statement about "already feeling pretty good about how you teach" and mostly means that we are not starting from scratch with teaching skills. We are assuming that people have a foundation that is working in some way for them as teachers. We want to add to that foundation and help people refine their teaching in an authentic way but we do not want to give brand new teachers formulas and rules or bog people down with lots of stringent techniques that stifle their wisdom. The content of this training is not an entry-level information and will be a balance of Teaching Methods, Business Considerations, and Inner Work. Is There Homework And Required Reading? There will be homework suggestions but not required assignments. This is a self-paced study program and Christina and Gioconda are there for lots of help and commentary along the way but we are not giving assignments with due dates. Obviously, like with anything, the more you apply to your studies and homework the more personalized the information will become and the more you will benefit. But some weeks will be busy in life and so we do not want this program to be something that adds stress to your life or anything like that. Do what you can, as you can and you will gain a lot.
What Kind Of Feedback Do You Anticipate Providing To Students? How Will You Gather Information About Student Progress So You Can Then Provide Feedback? The first thing to understand is that Alchemy is an online program, not an on-site program and so there is a difference in programming in terms of what we can offer and and also in the structure of how we can offer it as well how you will need to work with the information that we provide. We have designed a program that is content driven and assumes that participants have a working knowledge of basic teaching skills and do not need instruction or feedback on the basic level of teaching yoga to other people. That is why we are calling the program an Advanced Teacher Training, because we are assuming a level of comfort and proficiency with teaching among participants. That being said, we also know we can all always improve.
In terms of teaching methods, our emphasis is not on us telling you how to improve but on us teaching you how to evaluate your own teaching skills based on 1.) who you are as a person 2.) what your aims are as a teacher 3.) what, of the skills and ideas we present, you wish to integrate into your teaching. The program emphasis is not on us giving you feedback but on us supporting you in assessing your own teaching clearly, objectively and compassionately. For instance, we will not watch you teach but we will suggest that you video your owen teaching and watch it with several points in mind such as "personal presence and compassionate regard for the group" or "active voice in your verbal cues" or "spotting common misalignments in the room." We will outline several skills and several common mistakes and help you become your own assessor and your own teacher trainer.
In terms of being able to address issues in the group, we will have two primary channels for discussion- each month there will be a portfolio of information provided online and a blog-site for you to post questions and for us to post commentary and for the members of the community to comment and share as well. Additionally, the members of the training will be part of an online discussion via a Facebook Group for more casual interactions, discussions and sharing.
One of the benefits of this guided, independent study is that you can take the information and work with it according to your needs and so can everyone else. Many people who have participated in my online courses are amazed at the amount of material that I can cover because no one is interrupting me with personal questions, unique concerns and/or curiosities. We have a way to work with that via Q&A but the lectures are more content-driven than group process-driven.
I think, like with anything, there are many pros and cons with the online forum. This program is rich with learning opportunities for the experienced teacher and the sincere student. However, I do not want to mislead you that is is "just like a live experience" because it isn't. There are limits to the online forum and there are benefits as well.
If you are looking for someone to watch your teaching and offer feedback on that we have several students who are awesome teachers who have worked with us over a long period of time who are happy to review classes on video and offer constructive mentoring in that way. We would be happy to connect you with them if that is what you are looking for.
